Shooting in RAW: Help Your Photographs Reach Their Full Creative Potential

Taught by Holly Clark

Would you like to see an immediate difference in the quality of your photographs, giving them that extra pop of depth and clarity that you see other photographers achieve?

It could be as easy as changing one small setting on your DSLR camera and mastering a few processing tricks from Holly Clark—a graphic designer, professional photographer, and Getty Image Artist whose photographs have been published all over the world.

Through five video tutorials and a detailed instructional handout, Holly will show you the benefits of shooting in RAW, sharing her favorite basic processing tricks in both Photoshop and Lightroom. Holly says: "I like to find a way to simplify what seems like a complicated lesson and package it into an easy, straight-forward explanation. Learning a new feature on your camera should be inspiring, not frustrating!"

Through this class, you will learn:

  • The differences between RAW and JPEG file formats.
  • The pros and cons of RAW photography.
  • How to convert a file into a digital negative.
  • How to import and export files using Adobe Photoshop CS 6 and Lightroom 4.
  • How to work with RAW images in Adobe Photoshop CS 6 and Lightroom 4.
  • How to use creative presets.

This class will change the way you approach your photography, while opening the door to the full creative potential of your pictures! By the end, you'll look at your photos and think: "Wow, I did that!"

Note: To find out if your camera shoots RAW quality images, you can check the “Quality” setting in your camera’s menu or refer to your camera’s manual. If you haven’t shot any photos using the RAW setting yet, I’ll be taking you through the process of changing the settings on your camera before working with your pictures. If your camera doesn’t shoot RAW, I’ll be providing a sample group of images to work on in class.
If you have an older version of either Photoshop or Lightroom, you should be able to follow along, however older versions of both programs might not have all the same features. I’ll be addressing concerns about using older versions of Photoshop’s Adobe Camera Raw in class.

Please Note: a free 30-day trial for both products can be downloaded here.
